    Ever considered jetting off to Amsterdam and joining the city’s booming tech scene? Well, perhaps you should! Boasting more than 60k tech professionals working at over 1,000 tech companies, globally-recognised homegrown success stories such as Booking.com, Tomtom and Adyen and the European HQs of some of the world’s biggest tech giants including Netflix, Uber and Tesla, Amsterdam is fast becoming one of the hottest technology cities in Europe, if not the world.

    Being home to so many growing tech companies, the demand for tech candidates in Amsterdam is understandably sky-high and companies are engaging in all sorts of tactics to attract and retain the talent they so desperately need. Workplace perks and training opportunities are usually part of the package, but Amsterdam-based companies also pride themselves on their ability to provide competitive salaries. In actual fact, according to Hubspot, tech candidates in Amsterdam earn a higher average net salary than those based in London, Dublin, Paris or Berlin.

    So, let’s dive into the specifics! How much do engineering managers and frontend, backend and full-stack developers make in Amsterdam on average?

    What is the Average Amsterdam Developer Salary?

    The average salary for a software developer in Amsterdam is between €45-50,000/year for a developer with 2-6 years of experience. The most experienced developers earn an average of €55,000 (though this can reach as high as over €70,000), while starting salary for a developer in Amsterdam averages €36,000.

    What is the Average Amsterdam Developer Salary by Job Title?

    Engineering Managers have the highest-earning developer role in Amsterdam, with a moderately experienced Manager earning €62,500/year. Backend Engineers are the next highest-earning, with a median salary of €50-55,000 for moderately experienced engineers. Frontend and Full-Stack average slightly lower salaries, between €45-50,000 with moderate experience.

    Software Developer in Amsterdam: Job Description & Roles

    To work as a software engineer in Amsterdam, you will likely need a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field. Typical duties of a software developer include:
